Arm & Hammer Baking Soda™ is now Certified Carbon Neutral.*
By measuring our carbon footprint and reducing it to zero through our internal reductions and offsets.
How We Achieved Carbon Neutral Certification
We’ve measured our carbon footprint and are reducing it to zero through internal reductions and offsets.
Through lifecycle analysis, we calculated the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere through the raw material sourcing, production and distribution to retailers of domestic baking soda. This analysis was conducted by an independent third party, according to the requirements of the International Standard ISO 14044 (ISO, 2006), and was critically reviewed.
We are pursuing energy reduction projects at our production facilities and working toward longer term emissions reduction targets in accordance with our application to the Science Based Targets initiative.
We purchased carbon offsets equal to our estimated annual emissions. These offsets are generated, verified and tracked in accordance with applicable standards. We’ve purchased offsets in connection with three project areas globally: electric rail systems and solar water heating in India, the preservation of grasslands in Colorado, and forest protection and sustainable development activities in Colombia.
Partners & Initiatives Who Help Us Do More
Science-Based Targets Initiative
Church & Dwight, the parent company of ARM & HAMMER, submitted an application to the Science Based Targets initiative establishing reduction targets in line with limiting warming to 1.5°C for scope 1 and 2 emissions and below 2°C for scope 3 targets over 10 years, in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement and IPCC.

The Arbor Day Foundation
Through our partnership, we’ve helped plant nearly 5 million trees in the Mississippi River Valley, one of the most critical wetlands in North America. By supporting this project, we have reduced our company’s carbon footprint by over 144,000 metric tons since 2017 – that’s the estimated equivalent of removing 31,000 cars from the road!

Green-e
100% of the electricity used to manufacture our products at Church & Dwight plants is matched with Renewable Energy Certificates (“RECS”), primarily from wind energy. Our company obtains independent certification of our renewable energy and REC purchases for qualifying brands through the Center for Resource Solutions Green-e® certification program, which is an independent consumer protection program for the sale and purchase of renewable energy and greenhouse gas reductions in the retail market.
