SHOWER SOOTHERS SODA

    INGREDIENTS
  • 2 cups ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda
  • Bowl
  • Spray bottle
  • Silicone soap molds (or mini muffin tins)
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Baking sheet
  • Less than ¼ cup witch hazel
  • 1 cup citric acid
  • 20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • Food/soap dye (optional)
    DIRECTIONS
  1. In a bowl, mix citric acid and Baking Soda.
  2. Add the essential oil and mix well with your hands.
  3. If desired, add a few drops of food/soap dye to make your shower soothers colorful.
  4. Pour witch hazel into the spray bottle and spritz some onto the top of the powder mixture. Mix witch hazel in quickly with your hands, spritz more on top, and mix again until the mixture packs together nicely.
  5. Make sure not to make the mix too moist, or it will start to fizz.
  6. Scoop the mixture into molds one at a time and pack tightly so the mixture holds together.
  7. Prepare a cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Wipe cooking spray off, leaving only a light film.
  8. Once the molds are filled, unmold and flip them onto the cookie sheet to dry in a warm, sunny place for at least 24 hours.
  9. Once dry, package the cakes into baggies or jars.
  10. To use, place 1 cake on the shower floor. The warm water will cause the steamer to fizz and melt, releasing soothing eucalyptus into the steamy air. (Please note: The floor may become slippery after using the shower soothers; use caution.)

KEEPSAKE SODA

    INGREDIENTS
  • 1 ¼ cups ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda
  • ¾ cup cornstarch
  • ¾ cup water
  • Parchment or wax paper
  • Rolling pin or flat object (such as a plate)
  • Straw
  • Small paintbrush
  • White glue
  • Glitter
  • Ribbon
  • Clear sealant (optional)
    DIRECTIONS
  1. In a pot, mix clay ingredients (ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda, cornstarch, and water) together and set on the stove over medium heat.
  2. When the clay turns into a soft texture, like mashed potatoes, remove pot from heat to keep from drying out.
  3. Remove the clay from the pot and cover with a damp cloth to cool for 15 minutes.
  4. Once the clay is cooled, roll between two pieces of parchment paper to create a round of clay that is about 1 centimeter thick (any thicker and they tend to crack easily) and large enough to fit your child’s hand (or dog’s paw!).
  5. Press child’s hand firmly into the clay disc.
  6. Use a straw to put two holes above the handprint for the ribbon.
  7. To decorate with glitter, use a paintbrush to paint glue over clay. Tap the ornament to remove excess glitter.
  8. (Optional) When the ornament is completely dry, spray with a sealant or coat in Mod Podge to ensure that it stays intact.
  9. Thread the ribbon through the holes you made in the ornament, tie the two ends together, and enjoy your masterpiece!

PANCAKE ART SODA

    INGREDIENTS
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 ¼ cups buttermilk, divided
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • ¾ cup canned pumpkin
  • ¼ cup pecans
  • Butter and maple syrup for serving
    DIRECTIONS
  1. (Optional) Melt one tablespoon of unsalted butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add a dash of pumpkin pie spice and pecans. Cook until lightly toasted and chop. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugars, ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda, pumpkin pie spice and salt.
  3. In a liquid measuring cup, add 1 cup of buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and maple syrup. Whisk to combine.
  4. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients; stir to combine but do not overmix.
  5. In the same measuring cup add remaining ¼ cup buttermilk and canned pumpkin and mix well. Fold into batter.
  6. Let batter rest for about 5 minutes while you heat your griddle or skillet.
  7. Melt butter onto the cooking surface, spreading evenly.
  8. Pour the batter onto the griddle or frying pan. The pancakes are ready to flip when they start to look drier around the edges and start to form bubbles (about 1-2 minutes). Flip and cook on the other side until golden brown and completely cooked through–about another 1-2 minutes.
  9. Serve topped with butter, maple syrup, and spiced pecans if desired and enjoy!

NO-SNOW(MAN) SODA

    INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda

  2. Knead the white dough until it is soft. Roll it into three different size (snow)balls for the body.
  3. Cut a piece of wire and slide it through the “snow” balls, folding down the wire at both ends to hold the snowman together.
  4. Add all the other pieces and watch your snow people come to life!

"SKELETON" BRITTLE SODA

    INGREDIENTS
  • 2 teaspoons ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ¼ cup corn syrup
  • ½ cup water
    DIRECTIONS
  1. Line an 8-by-8-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, add sugar and give it a quick shake so the sugar is in one layer. Add honey, corn syrup, and water, but don’t stir!
  3. Cook sugar mixture over medium-high heat for about 5-10 minutes, until the mixture reaches 300ºF on a candy thermometer.
  4. Remove pan from heat and pour in ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda. Whisk together for about 5 seconds and watch as the mixture bubbles up madly. As soon as it stops foaming, pour into the prepared pan.
  5. Let cool for 1 hour until the candy gets hard and then use a knife to carefully break into pieces.
  6. Put pieces of your “skeleton brittle” into clear bags. Perfect for a spooky Halloween!

  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt plus more to dust over top
  • 3 tablespoons organic vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk

  1. Preheat your oven to 450ºF.

  5. Flour a surface well and plop the dough in the middle. Flour the top of the dough and carefully shape into a rectangle about ½ inch thick.
  6. Cut the biscuits with a floured biscuit cutter, cookie cutter, a drinking glass, or a wide-mouthed jar. Do not twist the cutter into the dough; just push down and then up.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together egg with a bit of water. Brush tops of biscuits with mixture and sprinkle with salt.
  8. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 10-11 minutes or until the tops are lightly golden.
