Closing Your Pool

You’ve waited out winter. At long last, summer is here. Get your swimsuit out and your sunglasses on, because soon you’ll be taking a dip in your sparkling clean, crystal clear pool.

A Step-By-Step Guide

Prep Your Pool:

  • Remove your pool cover and reconnect your pool pump, filter, hoses and electrical equipment.
  • Ensure all skimmers, filters, pumps, drains and equipment are clean.
  • Skim the surface of the pool, remove debris from the water and clean the walls with a pool brush.
  • Top off pool water. Then turn on the filter pump.
  • Check to make sure all equipment is working correctly.
  • Let the filter run for at least 12 hours.

Test & Balance the Water:

  • Test alkalinity first. If below the recommended range, add ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda. Follow the directions on the back of the 12 lb. or 13.5 lb. bag.
  • Continue to adjust levels until they fall into the ideal range, as outlined in the chart below.
  • Shock treat the water. Swimmers should not enter the pool until the chlorine level has dropped below 4 ppm.

Keep up regular testing and maintenance to enjoy a sparkling summer!

CAUTION: Always follow product instructions. Never mix products together. Never dissolve products before use.

What is pH and Why is it Important?

Simply put, pH is the measurement of acidity or basicity of water. The correct pH balance of 7.4-7.6 can help minimize eye irritation, reduce unpleasant odor, help prevent corrosion, avoid pool scaling and keep water crystal clear.

Why Use ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda?
