Keys to a good toothpaste:
  • ARM & HAMMER™ brand toothpastes
  • Delivers fluoride to fight cavities
  • Formulated with fluoride levels specified by the FDA
  • Cleans away unsightly plaque
  • Baking soda cleans away unsightly plaque from tooth surface and deep crevices!
  • Provides gentle cleaning.
  • Baking soda is one of the most gentle tooth cleaning agents you can use!
  • Is one you will use regularly.
  • ARM & HAMMER™ toothpastes provide the True Taste of Clean!™
ARM & HAMMER Dental Care™, ARM & HAMMER™ PeroxiCare™, ARM & HAMMER™ Complete Care™, ARM & HAMMER™ Sensitive and ARM & HAMMER™ Advance White™ toothpastes use baking soda as a primary cleaning agent. In fact, ARM & HAMMER™ has more products that use baking soda as the primary cleaning agent than any other brand. Other baking soda dentifrice products use relatively low levels of baking soda (5%-25%) and consequently need to employ an abrasive agent, such as silica, to actually clean the teeth.

As a cleaning agent, baking soda is less abrasive than virtually any other cleaning agent used in toothpastes. Less abrasion means less tooth wear, which helps keep your teeth healthier, longer. And when it comes to cleaning, recent studies indicate that baking soda in high concentrations, like those found in most ARM & HAMMER™ toothpastes, break down into tiny particles that are able to penetrate enamel crevices and remove food particles and deep stain embedded there.
In addition to cleaning well, baking soda toothpaste provides many additional functional benefits that separate it from other toothpastes:

  • Baking soda is gentle—it has significantly lower enamel and dentin abrasivity than the cleaning agents (i.e. silica) used in conventional toothpastes.
  • Baking soda freshens—it imparts a distinct freshness and clean-mouth feel.
  • Baking soda deodorizes—it provides odor control due to its ability to reduce acids in the mouth.
All in all the baking soda used in ARM & HAMMER Dental Care™, ARM & HAMMER™ PeroxiCare™ and ARM & HAMMER™ Advance White™ toothpastes helps make these products highly effective. An effective dentifrice is one that cleans teeth and gums by removing food particles and plaque and deodorizes the mouth.
Yes, all of our toothpaste products are formulated with levels of fluoride specified for an anti-caries (anti-cavity) toothpaste by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Yes. They were developed for a daily oral hygiene program. In evaluating these products, the maker of ARM & HAMMER™ conducted tests not only under expected use conditions but also under exaggerated use conditions. For example, in some studies we had the subjects brush every hour up to 5 times during one study day. After brushing they were examined by trained dental professionals.
The most important functions of a toothpaste is to protect the teeth from cavities and to effectively clean unsightly plaque and debris from the teeth. The effective delivery of fluoride from a dentifrice plays a large role in protecting the teeth from cavities. An effective cleaning agent, like baking soda, is paramount to clean away plaque and debris and brushing with ARM & HAMMER Dental Care™, the baking soda toothpaste helps keep gums healthy. Published information in the Journal of Dental Research (JDR Vol. 75, Spec. Iss., 1996) confirms that persons using a dentifrice without an effective cleaning agent would accumulate significant stain and debris in as little as five weeks of use. In that same journal, an abstract of research on both ARM & HAMMER Dental Care™ and ARM & HAMMER™ PeroxiCare™ was presented on our behalf by Dr. S. Ciancio and Dr. J. Zambon. This six-month study shows that long-term use of these two products provides effective cleaning with no adverse effects or harmful changes in the oral microflora.
ARM & HAMMER™ products are low in abrasion. That’s because they use ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda as a primary cleaning agent. It is an old-fashioned misconception that baking soda is abrasive. In fact, baking soda is very low in abrasion.

The abrasive properties of a dentifrice are measured in a standard test called the Relative Dentin Abrasivity (RDA) Test, which is conducted by accredited facilities. The abrasivity of the dentifrices are recorded as RDA values and used by all toothpaste manufacturers. The higher the RDA value the more abrasive the dentifrice. In this test, baking soda alone scores a 7, and the ARM & HAMMER™ products ranging from 10-117, all within accepted levels of abrasivity and typically below most other toothpastes.
The grittiness is most likely the feel of the baking soda before it dissolves in your mouth. Rest assured that ARM & HAMMER™ products are low in abrasion and will not harm your teeth.
Regular brushing with a well-formulated toothpaste like ARM & HAMMER Dental Care™, ARM & HAMMER™ PeroxiCare™ and ARM & HAMMER™ Advance White™, flossing and regular visits to your dentist are recommended ways to attend to your oral care needs. Gum disease can occur when there is a lack of attention to oral hygiene.
Crowns and other restorative materials are designed to be as hard and resistant as natural teeth. We have seen no evidence of changes in the surface or color of restorative materials with use of ARM & HAMMER™ toothpastes. There are many different types of restoratives now available, however, so we suggest that you speak to your dentist prior to use of any oral care product on crowns and other restorative material.
ARM & HAMMER™ toothpastes are safe for use by persons wearing dental appliances/dentures/braces/bridges. As with any dental appliances special care must be taken to insure thorough cleaning of the appliance and removal of unwanted food and debris. We suggest that you speak to your dentist prior to use of any oral care product on dental appliances/dentures/braces/bridges.
Yes, our products do contain sodium saccharin that the Internal Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has concluded, based on an exhaustive review, cannot be classified as carcinogenic in humans.
Yes, because baking soda is a natural buffer, ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda toothpaste helps maintain the mouth’s natural pH level as it neutralizes food acids immediately after use.
Yes, studies indicate that baking soda in toothpaste converts volatile sulfur compounds to a non-odorous form as well as reduces odor-causing bacteria.
Yes, baking soda is gentle enough to use on cosmetic restorations.
Yes, all ARM & HAMMER™ toothpastes contain 1100 ppm fluoride.
Yes, baking soda cleans mechanically and chemically. By gently polishing, it removes extrinsic stain and by penetrating into tiny surface crevices, it gently lifts acquired intrinsic stain.
Yes, it is an excellent choice for children (please read directions regarding proper use for children) to gently clean teeth and to keep gums healthy. Sometimes it takes a week or so for the child to get used to the new taste but it is well worth making this healthy choice.

ARM & HAMMER™ Spinbrush™ Toothbrushes

Dentists recommend brushing your teeth for 2 minutes. Brushing with your Spinbrush™ is simple—brush the same as you would with any other toothbrush.
Replacement heads are available for all Spinbrush™ ProClean™, Pro Whitening™, Pro Sensitive, SONIC and Truly Radiant™ toothbrushes.

While the brush head on ProClean™ SONIC is replaceable, the dual-action brush heads for traditional Spinbrush™ ProClean™ or Pro Whitening™ and the Pro Sensitive precision brush heads will not fit on SONIC brushes. Likewise, the ProClean™ SONIC brush head will not fit on other toothbrushes.
Change the brush head every 3 months, or sooner if the brush head is worn or parts are loose. Not doing so can lead to brush-head breakage, generation of small parts and possible injury.
How long the batteries last in your Spinbrush™ depends on its use. If you brush for 2 minutes twice a day, expect the batteries in your Spinbrush™ to last about 4 to 6 weeks. If water gets into the batteries area, the batteries may stop working sooner.
To change batteries (for all, except Swirl™, ProClean™ Recharge, ProClean™ SONIC Recharge, and Kids): Hold brush with the brush head pointing downward and the bristles facing to the left. Place thumb on indent and press firmly upward. The battery cap should snap open. Replace with fresh alkaline batteries and insert according to diagram.
Plug the charging unit into an electrical outlet. Place the brush handle in the charging unit. All four lights on the Brushing Quadrant Indicator will light up, signaling that the brush is charging. Charge your brush for approximately 30 hours prior to initial use. Do not use with any other charger. After the initial 30-hour charge, the brush can be used anytime while charging.
After your Sonic brush is fully charged, the battery should last for 5 days after removal from the charging base, assuming brushing 2x per day, 2 minutes for each brushing. Other brushes:It is recommended that the handle be stored on the charging unit to maintain full power and maximize battery life. Once the battery wears down, it is not replaceable.
Remove the brush head and rinse thoroughly with water after every use. Do not submerge the brush in water, because the brush can be damaged.
Spinbrush™ works with a series of gears and linkages that turn when a powered motor is switched on. This makes the round upper brush head turn back and forth (oscillate) quickly and the lower brush head move up and down (for the dual-action brush heads).
There’s a great reason Spinbrush™ doesn’t rotate all the way around. The head oscillates back and forth because circling in the same direction would cause Spinbrush™ bristles to lean to one side. What’s more, a back-and-forth spinning motion helps extend the life of the bristles and provides a better cleaning.

ARM & HAMMER™ Spinbrush™ for Kids

All Spinbrush™ for Kids brushes come with smaller brush heads designed for smaller mouths. Each toothbrush combines stationary bristles with high-speed oscillating bristles that massage gums and help to remove plaque. They are designed to promote healthy brushing and come in fun shapes for kids, like My Way!™ and Spider-Man™... and the batteries are included!
We recommend Spinbrush™ toothbrushes for children 3 years and up. For children under 3, use with adult supervision.
Please follow these steps to remove the battery door:
  1. Remove the screw on the back, remove the screw. Remove the screw with eyeglass screwdrivers (#0 or #1 size). If not, proceed to Step Two.
  2. Pull the battery door at the bottom of the brush downward.
  3. Remove batteries and replace with 2 AAA alkaline batteries.
